Senior Android TV and streaming engineer

I build the apps people watch on TV.

Ten-plus years of Android, focused on streaming since 2021: TV apps, video players, DRM and store releases on Android TV, Fire TV, webOS, Tizen and Apple TV. I take contract work with US companies, remotely from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (LATAM): one to two hours ahead of New York, four to five ahead of the Pacific coast.

What I work on

Video playback

Media3 and ExoPlayer on Android, AVFoundation on Apple TV. HLS and DASH, live and on demand, adaptive bitrate.

DRM and ads

Widevine and PlayReady protected streams, with server-side and client-side ad insertion.

TV platforms

Android TV and Google TV, Fire OS, LG webOS, Samsung Tizen and tvOS, including navigation that works with a remote.

Native code when it matters

JNI and C++ from my time on Uber's Maps SDK team, for the parts where Kotlin alone is not enough.

About me

I'm Raphael, a senior Android engineer from Rio de Janeiro. I also write practical books about AI-assisted software work.

  • Contract, business to business. I work through my own company in Brazil and invoice in US dollars.
  • Your hours. Brazil is one to two hours ahead of New York and four to five hours ahead of the Pacific coast, depending on the season.
  • AI in the daily work. I use AI coding tools every day, on my own accounts, and review every change before it ships.
